Blemishes develop when dead skin cells mix with your body´s natural oil and form a plug that clogs your pores. This has nothing to do with dirt or poor hygiene. In fact, washing your face or body too often (more than twice a day) or too vigorously can actually make acne worse. |

You are what you eat, right? Well, when it comes to acne, it’s not so simple. After years of research, scientists have not identified a link between junk food and acne. In some cases, however, it is possible that a food allergy could cause breakout. While a healthy diet does promote overall good health, sugary and fatty foods eaten in moderation do not cause acne. |

Over 85% of all people age 12-24 experience acne. However, a growing number of adults are suffering from acne into their late 20´s, 30´s and even 40´s. Adult acne is more common among women than men, primarily the result of hormone fluctuations. However, acne at any age can be controlled, and treatment can help minimize scarring. |

No matter how tempting, you should not scratch or squeeze a pimple. Tampering with a pimple could push the bacteria deeper into the skin, causing infection. Popping a pimple may also leave a brown or red spot that can last for months or dents that could last for years. |

While a small amount of sun might make your skin feel less oily, prolonged exposure will make acne worse. Sunbathing dries your skin, causing your sebaceous glands to produce more oil. This oil mixes with dry, dead skin and clogs pores. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and be sure to wear sunscreen that is oil-free. |
